Michael Thomas Flynn (born December 24, 1958) may be a retired us Army general officer who was briefly the National Security Advisor to President Donald Trump.

Flynn's military career included a key role in shaping U.S. counterterrorism strategy and dismantling insurgent networks in Afghanistan and Iraq, and he was given numerous combat arms, conventional, and special operations senior intelligence assignments.[2][3][4] He served because the 18th Director of the Defense intelligence, serving from July 2012 until his forced retirement from the military in August 2014.[5][6][7] After leaving the military, he established Flynn Intel Group, which provided intelligence services for businesses and governments, including ones in Turkey.[8][9] He became a senior advisor to Trump during his presidential campaign and served because the National Security Advisor from January 23[10] to February 13, 2017.[11] He resigned after information surfaced that he had misled the FBI and vp Mike Pence about the character and content of his communications with Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak.[12][13] Flynn's tenure of just 24 days is that the shortest within the office's history.[14][15]

On April 27, 2017, the Pentagon military officer announced an investigation into whether Flynn had accepted money from foreign governments without the specified approval.[16] The big apple Times reported on May 18, 2018, that a longtime FBI/CIA informant had met Flynn at an intelligence seminar in Britain six months earlier and have become alarmed by Flynn's closeness to a Russian woman there; this concern prompted another individual to alert American authorities that Flynn may are compromised by Russian intelligence.[17] Flynn initially refused at hand over subpoenaed documents to the Senate Intelligence Committee, pleading the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination, but a compromise with the committee was discovered.[18][19]

On December 1, 2017, Flynn appeared in tribunal to formalize a accommodate Special Counsel Robert Mueller to plead guilty to a felony count of "willfully and knowingly" making "false, fictitious and fraudulent statements" to the FBI. He also agreed to cooperate with the Special Counsel's investigation.[20] In August 2019, Flynn filed a motion to carry prosecutors in contempt for "malevolent conduct" and smears.[21] This was rejected by the judge.[22] In 2020 Flynn filed a motion to withdraw his guilty plea, [23] his sentencing was indefinitely postponed, [24] and also the us Department of Justice dropped the costs against Flynn in early May.[25]

Early life
Michael Thomas Flynn was born and raised in Middletown, Rhode Island, one among nine siblings[3] born to Helen Frances (née Andrews), who worked in land, and Charles Francis Flynn, a small-town banker, both Catholics of Irish descent.[26][27][28][29][30]

Flynn graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science degree in management science in 1981 and was a Distinguished Military Graduate of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps. He also earned a Master of Business Administration in Telecommunications from sound University, a Master of Military Art and Science from the us Army Command and staff College, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.[7] he's a graduate of the Military intelligence agent Basic Course, Ranger School, Military intelligence agent Advanced Course, Army Command and staff College, the varsity of Advanced Military Studies, and Naval War College.
